Best HDTV Antenna In San Francisco

The Sutro Tower is a huge 977-foot tall self supporting steel structure antenna tower which houses 10 television stations! Most recently the NBC affiliate KNTV has moved their transmitter location from Mt. Loma Prieta to San Bruno Mountain so they will now be closer to the other digital broadcasters! Well before all this was constructed television reception in San Francisco was quite spotty, as the many hills of the city would block the line-of-sight radio waves.

HDTV Reception In San Francisco

With Sutro towering over the entire San Francisco area gives the residences of the city a simple way to receive their High definition programming…FREE of charge!
After much research and analyzing of what HDTV antennas work best for the consumers in the great city of San Francisco it has all come down to 2 simple antennas. They are both simple to erect and very cost conscious since they will pay for themselves in a matter of months!

DTV Antennas San Francisco

Directional antennas are strongly recommended. Designs such as the SR15 and the 42XG have shown great results which make them best for San Francisco HDTV antennas. Due to the reflective surfaces offered by the many hills, muli-path interference can sometimes be an issue. Directional UHF Hi Def antennas (like the SR15 DTV antenna and the 42XG DTV antenna) with a clear shot in the direction of Sutro, seem to be the best solution. With extreme cases of multipath, (reflected signals) sometimes the addition of a variable attenuator can help. Also the tilt adjustments on the SR15 and the 42XG can help if the view doesn’t have a clear shot towards Sutro.

How Will the DTV Delay Act Affect You?

February 20, 2009  |  DTV Transition, News  |  Comments Off

Despite months of getting the word out, there were millions of people across the United States who were not ready for the digital television transition that was set to occur on Tuesday, February 17 of 2009. People were just not ready to make the change. As the economy worsened, more people lost their jobs and were already having a hard time making ends meet. Forking out money for a digital converter box was probably the last thing on their priority list as they struggled to pay important utility bills, rent, and food.

Even with the help of the TV Converter Box Coupon Program, millions of households had not yet received their coupons that they were promised. It was reported that the DTV coupon program was running short on money and would need more government funding to continue distributing the coupons, but they are still distributing these coupons slowly but surely. Consumers were to mail in their application and be put on a mailing list. This coupon program promises $40 coupons that could be used to purchase a converter box at participating retailers. Each household was eligible for up to two coupons, and given that a standard digital converter box was relatively cheap, most consumers would have received a completely free converter box or would have only had to pay for the difference in sales tax or just paid an extra $10-20.

Although the DTV Delay Act was signed into law by President Barack Obama and is in effect, it is not mandatory. One-third of the nation’s television stations will still go ahead with the transition and broadcast in digital before the new DTV transition date of June 12, 2009. Of course, only those with analog TV sets will be affected by this transition. Any TV that was purchased after March 1, 2007 will most likely not be affected by the digital transition, but check with the manufacturer or the manual to make sure. You can also see if your TV has a built-in receiver or built-in tuner of some sort that will be able to pick up these digital channels.

If you are a cable or satellite subscriber, then you will not be affected because they will ensure that you receive these digital channels regardless of whether or not you have an analog set or a TV that is capable of high definition transmission. With a weakening economy, however, some people have started to see cable or satellite, among other “unnecessary” services, as luxuries. In fact, when it comes time to cutting out unnecessary spending, services such as these are usually the first to be cut, along with dining out, going to the movies, trips, and frequent shopping sprees.

One very inexpensive and very reliable method of watching TV is by investing in an antenna. There are no monthly recurring fees, and you will have access to HD channels. There are several factors to take into account before making your purchase, such as choosing between an indoor or outdoor antenna or what will best suit your TV due to the location of your home. Visiting our HDTV antenna site will give you all of the information you need to make a sound decision on your antenna purchase.

Getting the Best Digital Reception With Your Antenna

February 10, 2009  |  News  |  Comments Off

What’s the Ideal Location for Your Digital Antenna?

In ALL cases a DTV antenna installed outside of your home as high as possible is the “Holy Grail” of installations. Outside antennas provide a direct link to the television stations, and gives you the highest quality possible for your local channels. Directional antennas usually provide the best reception in any given area. Also these types of antennas help eliminate multipath interference that cause break-ups (picture “freezes” or “tiling”) on your digital channels. The bottom line is, your trying to pick up the signal coming directly from the broadcasting towers (as shown here over at HDTV Antennas), without picking up signals bouncing off nearby buildings, metal roofs, etc. Your main goal is to reject all signals coming from any direction other than the tower your wanting. With this being said, if at all possible, mount your antenna away from all reflective surfaces or other antennas, and get it as high as possible.

Best Mounting Location and Why

Although this is not always possible due to being an eye sore or your neighbor complaining, it’s always best to mount your DTV antenna “based” directly on the ground. By this I mean, some type of tower or if you are lucky enough to be in a high elevation area, sometimes a simple 5′ pole cemented in the ground will do just fine. As you may have guessed…this is all for the safety of “grounding” your antenna installation.

Some Tips to Remember if Replacing an Existing Antenna

Inspect your cables! You may have the best antenna money can buy but if your cable is deteriorated you might as well have a “coat hanger” mounted! Check your connections, hd antennas work best outside but they pay the price. The elements corrode connections every time if they are not properly sealed or encased in some type of junction box at connection points. The most important thing you should look for if replacing an old antenna installation is the type of coax cable you have! Take a minute and just follow along a portion of your cable and see if you can determine what cable you have. What you don’t want is RG59. If your unable to determine the type of cable…replace it! In my opinion these are basically “outdated” cables. With the new “digital” frequencies you want nothing less than RG6 cable. RG6 cable has a thicker copper core than RG59. You can learn more about why using RG6 is better for the digital era. In fact Digital Antennas recommends RG6 quad shielded cables. They have loads of info that is very helpful for the “do it yourself” consumers out there.

You Have Until June 12 For the Digital Transition

Dont think for a minute you have extra time though. What a lot of people don’t realize is that high powered broadcasting companies have the right at anytime to switch over to digital after February 17! What’s that leave you in?…the dark!
Don’t procrastinate!

Pennsylvania Residents Will Have No Worries With Digital Reception.

February 5, 2009  |  News  |  Comments Off

Rural areas in Pennsylvania And HDTV Reception

With the digital deadline being delayed till June 12 consumers are collapsing in relief knowing they have more time to make the transition! In some cases many homeowners find that their old antenna works out fine for them but its becoming more and more apparent everyday that many aren’t so lucky. They are experiencing checkered squares or “tiling” on their TV screens! With the vast amount of rural area in the great state of Pennsylvania many are worried they will encounter problems. My advise to all rural area consumers is “don’t procrastinate”. June will be here before you know it, so a little research now will have you ready for the transition before it’s too late!!

A Digital Antenna Is All You Need

With “Digital” taking over, it’s just a simple choice of replacing your old antenna with an antenna that is specifically designed for the digital frequencies. Today there are newly designed antennas for the post digital changeover. Rural area customers already know they will need a very powerful outdoor rural area DTV antenna. In some cases they’re learning a combination UHF/VHF antenna is required if they have 1 or more VHF “low-end” (channels 2-13) in their broadcast area. What they may not know is most UHF digital antennas can receive VHF frequencies down to channel 7 which really makes it nice for consumers! There is only about 9% of broadcasters in the United States that use the VHF frequencies.

What’s The Right HDTV antenna For Me?

“I live deep in a rural area just outside Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, how do I determine what is right for me?” It’s actually very simple to narrow down your choices and find what’s right for your application. There is a great little tool you can use located over at this Digital antenna selector page. There you will find out what is best for your location. Don’t worry, it’s not too much for you to handle, it just a few questions in regards to what zip and State you live in along with how long your cable length is and so on. You will get the right antenna!

Want to Learn More About the Digital Transition and How it May Affect You?

There is a well informative place to visit over at this HDTV antenna site. There you will get a ton of information on the coming of digital TV and everything that may be needed so is to not be left out.
